Today he was chosen August's National League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.
In 28 games Murton batted .337 for Milwaukee, slapping 34 hits in 101 at-bats with 1 home run, drove in 16 runs and scored 15 times.
During the current season Murton is batting at a .280 clip with 13 home runs and 80 RBIs. He has played in 132 games and scored 60 times. | | AL Selects Rookie Star of the Month Monday, September 1st, 2003: Youngster B.J. Upton emerged as the latest American League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Baltimore deserved the honor, batting .307 with 6 home runs and 23 runs batted in. Is the month of August a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Upton enjoy the limelight.
In 118 games this year Upton has posted a .278 average and put up these numbers: 16 home runs, 59 RBIs and 85 runs scored. | | | | | Yesterday's Games - American League | | Away Team | Home Team | Result | Time | Winning Pitcher | Losing Pitcher | | New York | Boston | 15-5 | 1:05 pm | L.Hernandez (15-11, 3.74 ERA) | T.Ritchie (4-12, 5.90 ERA) | | Toronto | Cleveland | 8-6 | 1:05 pm | T.Davey (1-0, 5.52 ERA) | J.Guthrie (8-13, 5.94 ERA) | | Chicago | Detroit | 4-3 | 1:05 pm | B.Hennessey (7-13, 6.23 ERA) | M.Burns (2-1, 3.64 ERA) | | Anaheim | Kansas City | 3-7 | 2:05 pm | B.Penny (16-10, 3.70 ERA) | J.Washburn (12-14, 4.00 ERA) | | Tampa Bay | Oakland | 10-0 | 4:05 pm | V.Zambrano (12-10, 4.13 ERA) | A.Prieto (4-9, 6.25 ERA) | | Baltimore | Seattle | 3-6 | 4:05 pm | H.Nomo (13-11, 5.23 ERA) | T.Hudson (13-13, 3.79 ERA) | | Minnesota | Texas | 5-3 | 2:05 pm | O.Perez (19-4, 3.25 ERA) | D.Davis (11-11, 5.12 ERA) | | Yesterday's Games - National League | | Away Team | Home Team | Result | Time | Winning Pitcher | Losing Pitcher | | Montreal | Florida | 9-11 | 1:05 pm | A.Fernandez (15-10, 4.25 ERA) | N.Figueroa (2-2, 6.10 ERA) | | Philadelphia | New York | 8-2 | 1:05 pm | K.Wood (15-8, 2.88 ERA) | A.Sele (7-14, 6.34 ERA) | | Milwaukee | Chicago | 4-5 | 2:05 pm | G.Majewski (1-0, 1.50 ERA) | P.Neshek (0-1, 5.40 ERA) | | St. Louis | Cincinnati | 7-1 | 1:05 pm | J.Westbrook (9-14, 4.30 ERA) | J.de la Rosa (3-4, 6.93 ERA) | | San Diego | Houston | 10-0 | 2:05 pm | R.Dempster (17-8, 2.57 ERA) | J.Francis (5-14, 6.01 ERA) | | Atlanta | Pittsburgh | 8-9 | 1:05 pm | T.Van Poppel (1-3, 6.25 ERA) | H.Slocumb (3-6, 3.63 ERA) | | San Francisco | Arizona | 0-2 | 9:05 pm | M.Kinney (8-15, 5.24 ERA) | M.Mulder (12-10, 3.58 ERA) | | Colorado | Los Angeles | 5-4 | 8:05 pm | R.Halladay (16-7, 2.42 ERA) | J.Stephens (0-1, 5.67 ERA) | | | Today's Games - American League | | Away Team | Home Team | Time | Starting Pitcher Away Team | Starting Pitcher Home Team | | New York (66-71, Road: 28-40) | Toronto (76-61, Home: 37-28) | 1:05 pm | LHP S.Hitchcock (12-11, 4.23 ERA) | LHP M.Hendrickson (12-6, 5.86 ERA) | | Cleveland (56-81, Road: 26-40) | Detroit (73-63, Home: 42-25) | 1:05 pm | RHP B.Colon (6-17, 5.81 ERA) | RHP J.Weaver (13-3, 3.33 ERA) | | Anaheim (49-88, Road: 23-45) | Minnesota (83-53, Home: 39-28) | 2:05 pm | RHP G.Meche (10-13, 4.58 ERA) | RHP W.Miller (6-7, 4.28 ERA) | | Kansas City (77-60, Road: 41-25) | Texas (68-69, Home: 35-33) | 2:05 pm | RHP R.Pavlik (12-8, 4.66 ERA) | RHP L.Cormier (13-10, 4.43 ERA) | | Today's Games - National League | | Away Team | Home Team | Time | Starting Pitcher Away Team | Starting Pitcher Home Team | | Montreal (58-80, Road: 31-38) | Florida (77-59, Home: 43-25) | 1:05 pm | RHP C.Carpenter (14-11, 3.96 ERA) | RHP A.Cook (19-5, 2.65 ERA) | | Atlanta (60-77, Road: 26-43) | New York (65-71, Home: 28-40) | 1:05 pm | LHP C.Wilson (6-12, 4.95 ERA) | LHP J.Smiley (12-8, 4.49 ERA) | | St. Louis (61-76, Road: 29-40) | Chicago (85-52, Home: 44-24) | 2:05 pm | RHP M.Morris (12-8, 3.50 ERA) | LHP R.Ankiel (11-6, 5.19 ERA) | | Cincinnati (70-66, Road: 32-33) | Milwaukee (79-57, Home: 38-28) | 2:05 pm | RHP A.Harang (11-10, 3.30 ERA) | LHP C.Hernandez (11-6, 3.82 ERA) | | San Francisco (71-66, Road: 38-33) | Arizona (61-76, Home: 31-39) | 4:05 pm | LHP B.Zito (9-10, 4.66 ERA) | LHP A.Pettitte (11-11, 4.14 ERA) | | Houston (69-67, Road: 32-33) | Los Angeles (64-72, Home: 32-37) | 9:05 pm | RHP J.Towers (12-12, 5.13 ERA) | RHP A.Eaton (9-11, 3.80 ERA) | | |
